Hello San Diego!,
Lots and lots of events to report on this week! Being October, there are several Oktoberfests around San Diego, including ones in El Cajon, La Mesa, and Ocean Beach. The month-long Fiesta de Reyes Día de los Muertos began this week. The 2nd Annual Hispanic Cultural Heritage Celebration takes place today at the Kroc Center. The Chinese Historical Museum will hold a Mochi Ice Cream Social & Mid-Autumn Moon Festival Celebration on Saturday. Also on Saturday, a Filipino American History Month Festival will take place at the La Jolla Library. Sunday, the House of Korea will hold its annual Lawn Program. Next Friday, the House of Poland will hold their Polish Echos eve.
On both Friday and Sunday, there will be a concert of the French classical music of Ravel and Debussy at the Jacobs Music Center. Also on Friday, Brazilian rocker Baia Toca Raul will perform at Break Point. Saturday concerts include the San Diego part of the San Diego Tijuana International Jazz Festival at CCA, an Indian Classical Music Concert at the Seaside Center for Spiritual Living, and Hawaiian singer Amy Hānaiali‘i at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater. This coming Tuesday, there will be a Japanese-inspired Moon Viewing Concert at the Conrad Prebys Music Center. Also on Tuesday, classical Spanish guitarist Andrea González Caballero will perform at the Kroc Center. Next Thursday, the Sound Without Borders concert will happen at Trilogy Sanctuary. And next Friday, the Taste of Ireland music and dance show will take place at California Center for the Arts, and the show will also be performed the following Sunday at the Balboa Theatre.
Film festivals and special movie screenings include Linda Linda Linda, The Devil’s Bride, and the San Diego Filipino Film Festival.
Other events of note include a talk on Indigenous Knowledge for Land Conservation, the Mexico in a Bottle events, the Noche de Mole Fundraiser, a Latina Empowerment Day event, the Lyrics and Legends Open Mic, and the Under the Moon Lantern Walk.
Lastly, the Worldview Project, which produces this newsletter every week (and does lots of other stuff too!), is a non-profit organization. Supporting cross-cultural awareness, understanding, and engagement has never been more critical than it is now. As you may have noticed, we don't annoy you with advertisements or constant fundraising appeals. But we need your support to continue to do what we do. In particular we are seeking our reader's help in funding the further development of our Cultures in the Classroom™ curriculum project to inspire children to connect with and appreaciate the wonder of cultures around the world. You can show your support by clicking on the "Donate to the WVP" button above and making a tax-deductible donation to the WVP. No donation is too small— even a dollar would be appreciated!
